Run in the Name of Love to Cancel Due to Growing Coronavirus Threat

The 2020 race will not be rescheduled; entrants to receive full refunds.

CARMEL, CA – Organizers of the 10th presentation of the Run in the Name of Love 2K/5K, originally set for Sunday, June 21st in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif., have announced that the race will be cancelled. Over the past several weeks, the Big Sur Marathon Foundation, organizers of the event, have been monitoring updates from county, state, federal, and international public safety and health agencies regarding the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. With state and local efforts to control the virus expanding quickly, the organization’s governance board and officials decided to cancel the race to ensure the safety of participants, volunteers, spectators, and residents.

The 2020 race will not be rescheduled and all entrants, about 125 to date, will be contacted and will receive full refunds.

“It is with great disappointment that we have been forced to cancel this beautiful and meaningful event,” said Susan Love, Race Director for the event. “Run in the Name of Love has been a source of joy to many and has offered a time of reflection and comfort to others. When safe to do so, take a few moments to get outside and ‘Run in the Name of Love.’”

Run in the Name of Love is an event of the nonprofit Big Sur Marathon Foundation, whose mission is to “create beautiful running events that promote health and benefit [the Monterey County] community.” The organization carries out its mission by providing grants to local groups who volunteer at Foundation races throughout the year and other charitable programs including the year-round JUST RUN youth fitness program.
