Update from Rich Harshbarger, Running USA CEO
With many of the fall marathons in the rearview and the holidays fast approaching, I wanted to take a moment and give thanks for your continued support of Running USA. It is you, our members, who allow us to advocate and educate about this amazing sport.
And it is with your membership support that we are able to continue to do our annual research reports, develop partnerships with groups like music licensing companies and Nicholas Hill Insurance to find ways to pass along savings to your ever-tightening budgets. If you ever have any questions about your membership, please do not hesitate to reach out to Brian Lyons.
It is hard to believe that the largest collection of running professionals from around the world will gather at the Running USA Industry Conference presented by Race Roster in approximately 90 days at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. A big thank you to Race Roster who recently signed on as our presenting sponsor of the event for the next two years.
Christine Bowen and our Conference Planning Committee have worked tirelessly on the slate of speakers and topics and there is something for every sized event and business. Many say that our industry is at a crossroads, has reached a plateau and the growth days are behind us. In our opening session, The Start Line for Evolution, an interactive panel of prominent industry leaders, including Olympian Kara Goucher, who have led transformative organization changes, will discuss what running should do in order to react to current trends.
New this year will also be specific content developed solely for timers. We heeded past feedback and made sure to include a number of the popular Race Camp sessions which are small, moderated discussions on topics like: handcycles, virtual races, the rise of run crews and so many more.
Though the annual conference is still three months away, I encourage you to register and be sure to book your hotel rooms by the Jan, 16, 2020 final deadline. Keep checking our web site as we continue to update the conference agenda and speaker list.
If for some reason you cannot join us in Las Vegas, there are other ways to stay connected. We continue to offer many webinars on a variety of topics that are recorded and can also viewed later. The Data Insight Series is presented by imATHLETE and the next topic is all about customer service.
In addition, in December we’ll hear from Event Hub on ways to scale up your race and expo. You can find all of the past webinar recordings on our website.
For those of you in or plan to be in the Austin area early next month, please join us for the final Accelerator Series sponsored by Race Roster for 2019. We've got margaritas and queso, industry experts with solutions to your problems, and a great afternoon of education planned.
This will be our final session of the year and what’s a better way to learn, network and have some fun in downtown Austin on Tuesday, December 3?
Finally, I’d like to take a moment and ask for your help. In a few weeks, we will again be going into the field with our annual National Runner Survey. This report tracks the trends of your runners and each year we rely on your help to reach them.
We will also be working with major registration companies to compile our annual State of the Sport reports and will release those results early next year.
As I mentioned at the top, Running USA exists because of your support and involvement. On behalf of the team and our board of directors, thank you for your engagement and all the best this holiday season. See you in Las Vegas!
