Boilermaker 15K Reaches Cap, Still Ways to Participate

June 11, 2019 (Utica, NY)The Boilermaker 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield officially reached its registration cap this afternoon. The 15K cap was increased by 500 runners, to a total of 14,500, for the 40th running in 2017 and it has remained in place since.

Options still exist for those who are still interested in participating in either the 15K or 5K. Individuals may join a first-come first-served waiting list. Individuals on the waiting list will then be contacted if and when their lottery number is reached and they will be given a window of time to register. Registered runners may also officially transfer their bibs to prospective runners. Both the bib transfer and waiting list options are administered through RunSignUp which can be accessed via

A third option for participation is through the Boilermaker Charity Bib Program. Charity bib runners are tasked with raising funds on behalf of one of eleven selected non-profit organizations. There are less than a dozen charity bibs available and those interested in participating are encouraged to contact the Boilermaker office directly for more information. Since the program’s inception in 2013, over $600,000 has been raised to benefit local charities.

Race officials would like to remind the public that although a 5K waiting list is in effect, it is unlikely that individuals will be selected from it. Instead, prospective 5K runners are encouraged to seek out official transfers or charity bibs.

The 42nd running of the Boilermaker Road Race will take place on Sunday, July 14th, 2019.
