Alexandria City Public Schools Presented with Healthy School Award

 

Students acknowledged for participation in 2018 MCM Kids Run

 

QUANTICO, VA (Feb. 8, 2019) – The Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) recognized the athleticism and dedication of elementary students by presenting the 2018 Healthy School Award at the Alexandria City Public School Board Meeting. Schools earned this recognition for having top student participation in the 2018 MCM Kids Run presented by Virginia529.

 

The MCMO and MCM Kids Run sponsor Sodexo presented the 2018 Healthy School Award to the following Alexandria City Public Schools on Feb. 7:

·       George Mason Elementary School

·       James K. Polk Elementary School

·       Mount Vernon Community School

 

The MCM Kids Run boasted a one-mile just-for-fun run on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at the Pentagon North Parking lot. Winning schools are awarded a $1,000 grant to each school’s physical education department and healthy snacks for each student from Sodexo.

 

In total, five schools will be recognized for this award. All schools had previously earned this accolade. The two remaining schools in Arlington County (Claremont Immersion School and Taylor Elementary School) will be presented their awards on March 28. Together, the 2018 Healthy School Award winners registered a combined 1,189 runners between the ages of 5-12. Almost 2,000 of the 3,600 participants in the event registered through the school group program.

 

The Healthy School Award promotes the next generation of runners. The student’s enthusiasm moves their peers and community, leaving a positive impact and memorable fitness experience for all parties involved.

 

Registration for the 2019 MCM Kids Run opens to the public at noon Eastern on Wednesday, April 24 atwww.marinemarathon.com. There are 3,600 available entries each costing $10.
