4,000 Participants Take on Neighborhood Harvest Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon Weekend in Hampton, Virginia

October 6, 2019 – HAMPTON, VIRGINIA –  Nearly 4,000 runners and walkers crossed the finish line of The Neighborhood Harvest Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon Weekend presented by Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Orthopedics completing the Half Marathon, 5K or Kids Kilometer.

“This was the 8th annual The Neighborhood Harvest Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon and 5K. We couldn’t have asked for a better fall weekend.  The City of Hampton, its communities, and race volunteers all made this an amazing day for our runners,” said Jerry Frostick, co-owner of J&A Racing. “Race day is such an inspiring place to be since we get to celebrate runners and walkers of all ages and abilities as they accomplish their goals.”

With ages ranging from 1-89, this event has something for everyone. The race attracts visitors from all seven local cities, the entire state of Virginia, and 19 other states.

“Crawlin Crab weekend was simply amazing,” said Catrina Ralston, Shell Yeah! Challenge participant. “The vibe was positive and uplifting from the race staff, volunteers, and participants. I did the 5K for fun and helped a friend aim for a “cancer PR” which she achieved by more than two minutes. I used the half marathon to get a training run in. This was hands down the best way to do it! I didn’t even think about the miles because I was engrossed in the support and views along the course. My cheeks hurt at the end from smiling for miles.

John Leder of Richmond, Virginia, won The Neighborhood Harvest Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon with a finish time of 1:11:27. The winner of the half marathon on the women’s side was Stephanie Rice of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She broke the tape in 1:29:22.

After crossing the finish line, participants headed to a post-race party outside the Hampton Coliseum to enjoy Virginia craft beer, crab soup from the Culinary Institute of Virginia and live music. This year’s post-race party featured a Crawlin’ Crab Wit beer from Old Bust Head Brewing Co., a new release from Wasserhund Brewing Co., and eight other Virginia Craft Breweries.

The 2020 event will take place on October 2-4, 2020. Registration is currently available at crawlincrabhalf.com
