Nomination Period Now Open for 2019 Running USA Industry Conference Honors

National non-profit supporting the sport of road running announces updates to annual industry awards, including new scholarship program for industry professionals honoring industry legend Allan Steinfeld

(Sept. 26, 2018) – Running USA is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the organization’s annual awards program, which takes place each year at the Industry Conference powered by the ACTIVE Network. This year’s conference is set for Feb. 10-12, 2019 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

New for the 2019 conference, Running USA has created the Allan Steinfeld Conference Scholarship Program to assist a limited number of industry professionals who need help offsetting costs or are otherwise unable to cover lodging and registration fees.

Scholarships are available to individuals of Running USA member events currently in good standing. Scholarships will be awarded based on articulation of need and desire to attend the conference and will reflect the broadest representation of Running USA membership possible.

“This new scholarship program continues to honor the legacy of Allan Steinfeld and his work to build the sport of road running into the dynamic industry that we know today,” said Running USA CEO Rich Harshbarger. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer access to our conference programming to those who might otherwise not be able to attend the event.”

Applications by industry professionals for an Allan Steinfeld Conference Scholarship can be submitted here. Individuals must be part of a Running USA member organization.

In addition to the scholarships, the other awards and grants that will be presented at this year’s event include:

  • Hall of Champions inductees: An honor reserved for those who have given their time, energy and passion to improving the sport in new directions, Hall of Champions nominees should have significant accomplishments as an entrepreneur, executive, contributor, athlete, owner, or volunteer or other role that has supported road running as a business. Nominate an individual.
  • Rising Star Award: The Running USA Rising Star award, first given out at the 2018 Industry Conference, recognizes a young professional in the sport who has demonstrated strong leadership, initiative, entrepreneurship and exceptional contributions early in their career (individuals should have less than 5 years industry experience). Nominate an individual.
  • Women’s Leadership Award: This award goes to a woman who has been a leader and a pioneer in the sport and has served the sport with distinction, furthering not only the support and accomplishments of women in the industry, but the running industry as a whole. Nominate an individual.
  • Youth Program Grant: The Running USA Youth Program Award provides a $10,000 grant to one youth program that advocates the benefits of youth running, works to combat obesity and supports family and youth health initiatives. Nominate a program.
